JOKESTICK

Terms of sale

We're here to make being known the best present in the world. This is the deal that goes with it: what you're buying, when you can change your mind, what we promise about the people in the game, and what happens if something's wrong.

Last updated 24 October 2026. Our company registration is in progress; its name, number and address will appear here the day it completes.

1. Who we are

Jokestick, at jokestick.com, run by its two founders. "We" means us. "You" means the person buying the game.

2. What you're buying

A personalised comedy video game, made from the stories you tell Joy, our AI interviewer, about a group of people. It's digital content: a private web link to a game that runs in the browser on a phone or computer, and can be added to a home screen to play offline.

EditionPriceWhat's in it
Quick Play£303 to 4 chapters, up to 4 people, ready 72 hours after you finish with Joy
Full Game£556 to 8 chapters, up to 8 people, ready 48 hours after you finish with Joy
Director's Cut£9910 to 14 chapters, up to 14 people, ready 48 hours after you finish with Joy, two rounds of changes, a daily countdown to the do

The price you see is the price you pay. There are no other charges.

3. How the order works

You order and pay. We email you a private link to Joy. You tell Joy the stories, in one go or over several sittings. When you press Send, we write the game. A real person plays it and reads every line before you get it. Then we send you its private link.

"Finish with Joy" means pressing Send. The delivery times above start then. If we're going to be late, we'll tell you, and you can cancel for a full refund.

4. Changing your mind

Normally you'd have 14 days to change your mind about buying digital content online. But we start work straight away: your link to Joy, and Joy herself, are part of the game.

So at checkout we ask you to tick a box that says: I want Jokestick to start straight away. I understand that once my link to Joy is sent, I lose my right to cancel and get a refund just for changing my mind. If you don't tick it, we hold your link for 14 days and send it then. We repeat your tick in your order email.

Either way, until you press Send you can still cancel. If you haven't started talking to Joy, you get the full price back. If you've started, you get 70% back, because the interview is part of the work. After you press Send we've started building, and the rest of these terms apply.

5. Your promises about the people in the game

You're telling us about real people who don't know yet. By ordering, you promise that:

6. What we can leave out

We make games that make people laugh, not games that hurt them. We can leave out, change or soften anything that breaks the promises above, anything we think could really hurt someone, or anything that names a real brand. If we leave something out we'll tell you and offer a gentler version. We can refuse an order, or stop one, if the stories break these rules; if we do, we refund you in full, and if it's after you've pressed Send we'll explain why.

7. The quality of the game

The game must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose, as the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires. If it's faulty (it doesn't load, a chapter breaks, a name's wrong) tell us and we'll fix it. If we can't fix it in a reasonable time, you're entitled to some or all of your money back. Director's Cut includes two rounds of changes; the other editions get fixes rather than rewrites.

Comedy is a matter of taste. A joke you don't like isn't a fault, but tell us anyway: if a line misses, we'd rather know.

8. Takedowns

Anyone in a game can ask us to take it down, or take out one line, no questions asked. If that happens we'll tell you, and offer you a re-cut without that person or line, free, or half your money back. Copies already saved on people's phones are beyond our reach.

9. Who owns what

We own the game engine, the character system, Joy, our designs and code. You own your stories. You give us permission to use them to make your game, as our privacy notice describes, and we use them for nothing else, and never to train an AI model.

You get a personal licence to keep, play and share your game with the people in it and your friends and family, for ever, but not to sell it or post it publicly. We won't put your game or anyone in it in our marketing without permission.

10. Your information

How we look after your information, and the information about the people in your game, is in our privacy notice and our notice for people in a game.

11. Our responsibility to you

Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't let us limit. We're responsible for loss you suffer that's a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms. If digital content we supply damages your device or other digital content because we didn't use reasonable care, we'll repair it or compensate you. We're not responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, or for business losses: this is for personal use.

12. Complaints

Tell us at hello@jokestick.com and we'll reply within five working days. These terms are under the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can bring proceedings there.
